The Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria, GDPN, has vowed to go to court to compel the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to challenge the outcome of the July 14 Governorship Election in Ekiti State if the Party fails to challenge the results from the exercise in court.

Speaking to pressmen in Abuja on Monday, GDPN’s Publicity Secretary Barr. Mrs Yelwa Abubakar, expressed the party`s disappointment in the process leading to the election and the election itself.

In her words; “We are not just complaining about the outcome of the charade they call election, the GDPN is saddened by the fact that our nascent democracy which we all fought to establish in 1999 is about to collapse and we are saying categorically that what we experienced in Ekiti last weekend was a shame”.

“This is not about APC or PDP, it has gone beyond those acronyms, our concern as a grassroots party is the destruction of all democratic norms and values”.

“We had our members monitoring the election in the 16 LGAs in Ekiti and the results we got from the points of counting at all polling units were that the PDP led with wide margins and whatever happened at the respective collation centers in each local govt is what we must worry about”.

The constitutional Lawyer asserted that it is important that all well meaning Nigerians rise up against this dictatorship tendencies of President Buhari, Oshiomhole and the ruling Party itself.

She said: “if we don`t rise up against this injustice and dictatorial antecedents exhibited in Ekiti weekend, our generations to come will not have anything to remember about Nigeria. We are supposed to be in a democracy, but Ekiti was militarized and a sitting governor was molested, beaten and reduced to nothing in his own state without regards to the constitutional immunity which covers him as a governor.

“As a lawyer, I know what is necessary at times like this, we have asked the PDP to go to court without wasting time, but if they delay we will go to court to compel them to do the needful”.

“The point is, Nigerians are tired of this APC government, they are aware of this but they are trying to use force to remain in power beyond 2019 and Nigerians will resist them, GDPN will resist any form of tyranny and intimidation of the good people of Nigeria by an incompetent government that cannot protect lives and properties of its citizens”.

GDPN also took a swipe on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for what it called irresponsibility and lack of control of the whole process.

“INEC must explain to us what happened in Ekiti with the discrepancies in the figures declared and also tell Nigerians why they would conduct an election that was turned into a cash and carry affair and why the results were not posted from the polling units as they earlier promised Nigerians”?

“For us in GDPN, INEC, is culpable and we must state that we have lost confidence in their ability to conduct a free, fair and credible election”.

OLIKA REPORTERS can recall that the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria, which prides itself as the Solution to the Nation, had raised its voiced against the deployment of over 30,000 police and other security personnel to Ekiti for an election holding in just 16 LGA and also condemned the harassment of the governor, Ayo Fayose during a rally before the election.
